Krishna and Ram are motorcycle enthusiasts and they love to experiment with the bike engines in their free time. Krishna owns a Royal Enfield 1983 vintage bike and the duo planned on redesigning the bike’s engine to customize it for the modern day bikes. Their goal was to improve the efficiency of bike engines by leveraging the best features of the vintage bikes with customization. They aspire to start up in the same arena, once they succeed in their trials.
For redesigning the engine, they needed a model of the engine to which they can make requisite changes. They have opted for 3D scanning over conventional methods for this purpose and it is an appropriate choice. Conventionally, obtaining the model of the engine involves sand casting or mould casting techniques. These die designing processes are tedious and extracting the dimensions of the component is difficult. Traditional methods require a lot of skill and effort to accurately sand cast the object, implement the changes in the model and fabricate the object with required alterations.
These drawbacks and delays can be overcome by 3D scanning the object. We have used our in-house Artec Eva 3D scanner for 3D scanning the engine. Artec Eva is reputed as an ideal choice for reverse engineering medium sized objects such as alloy wheels, automotive components and even 3D scanning humans. This white light hand held 3D scanner easily gave a digitized model of the engine. The fused and texturized 3D design model is then provided to the clients. They could apply necessary changes on to the model and achieve the efficacy they wanted. These are one among many of our satisfied customers.
3D scanning reduces the cost, labour and dexterity involved in conventional die designing methods and greatly helps in reverse engineering the products. Implementing design changes and refining till the desired output is obtained is not only easy and accurate with digitized 3D design models, but also saves a lot of time. The intricate designs in a component can be captured precisely using 3D scanning.
